documents revealed that Justin Ross Harris and
his wife had two life insurance policies for 22-
month-old Cooper Harris, one for $2,000 and on
for $25,000. Prosecutors have portrayed the 33-
year-old Harris as an unhappy husband who wa
exchanging nude photos with several women.
Defense attorneys say the death was a tragic
accident. Harris remains in jail charged with
murder and child cruelty. The insurance policies
were mentioned among numerous details from t
evidence against Harris and weren't singled out
prosecutors in their arguments. Still, the case ha

দেশের মুক্তিপাগল বীরসন্তানরা। ২৫
মার্চের গভীর রাতে ধানমণ্ডির ৩২
নম্বর বাড়িতে গ্রেপ্তার হওয়ার
আগেই বঙ্গবন্ধু স্বাধীনতার ঘোষণা
দিয়েছিলেন। তার ডাকে সাড়া
দিয়ে নিরস্ত্র বাঙালিরা
যেভাবে একটি সুশৃঙ্খল অত্যাধুনিক
সমরাস্ত্রে সজ্জিত সামরিক
বাহিনীর বিরুদ্ধে রুখে
দাঁড়িয়েছিল, পৃথিবীর ইতিহাসে
তার দৃষ্টান্ত বিরল।
অবশ্য পাকিস্তানি হানাদারের কবল
থেকে দেশ মুক্ত করার এ প্রতিরোধযুদ্ধ
শুরু হয়েছিল আগে থেকেই।
একাত্তরের অগি্নঝরা উত্তাল
মার্চের নানা ঘটনার
ধারাবাহিকতায় বঙ্গবন্ধুর ৭ মার্চের
ঐতিহাসিক ভাষণের আহ্বানে
গোটা জাতি মুক্তিযুদ্ধের প্রস্তুতিও
শুরু করে দিয়েছিল। আর ২৬ মার্চের
বঙ্গবন্ধুর আনুষ্ঠানিক স্বাধীনতার
ঘোষণায় সূচনা ঘটে সশস্ত্র
মুক্তিযুদ্ধের। নয় মাস চলা সে
মুক্তিযুদ্ধে একদিকে রচিত হয়
ইতিহাসের মহীয়ান অধ্যায়,
মুক্তিকামী বাংলার মানুষের
বীরত্বগাথা। অন্যদিকে ছিল
পাকিস্তানি হানাদার বাহিনীর
নির্বিচার গণহত্যা, নারী ধর্ষণ ও
লুটতরাজের কলঙ্কিত অধ্যায়।
একাত্তরের ১৬ ডিসেম্বর ঢাকায়
হানাদার বাহিনীর আনুষ্ঠানিক
আত্মসমর্পণের মাধ্যমে এই মুক্তিযুদ্ধের
চূড়ান্ত বিজয় অর্জিত হয়। বিশ্ব
মানচিত্রে স্বাধীন-সার্বভৌম
গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশ নামের
রাষ্ট্রের আত্মপ্রকাশ ঘটে।
জীবন উৎসর্গ করে শত্রুর মুখোমুখি
দাঁড়িয়ে দীর্ঘ নয় মাসের মুক্তির
সংগ্রাম শেষে বাঙালি পরাজিত
করেছিল হানাদারদের। ছিনিয়ে
এনেছিল বিজয়। কিন্তু সেই
সংগ্রামে এ দেশেরই কিছু কুলাঙ্গার
হাত মিলিয়েছিল নিজের ভাই,
নিজের মা-বোনের ওপর
হামলাকারীদের সঙ্গে।
স্বাধীনতার পর উদ্যোগ নেওয়া
হয়েছিল সেই রাজাকার-আলবদরদের
বিচারের। ক্ষমতার পটপরিবর্তনের মধ্য
দিয়ে সেই বিচারের উদ্যোগ বন্ধ
হয়ে ছিল বহুকাল। সরকারি
পৃষ্ঠপোষকতা দিয়ে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের
চেতনাবিরোধী সেই পরাজিত
শত্রুদের সংগঠিত হওয়ার সুযোগ করে
দেওয়া হয়েছিল। এমনকি দিন দিন
তারা রাষ্ট্রীয় ক্ষমতারও অংশীদার
হয়ে উঠেছিল। তারা মুক্তিযুদ্ধের
সত্যিকার ইতিহাস বিকৃত করে নতুন
প্রজন্মকে বিভ্রান্ত করার গভীর
ষড়যন্ত্রে লিপ্ত হয়েছিল। অবশেষে
চার দশকের প্রতীক্ষা শেষে
একাত্তরের মানবতাবিরোধীদের
বিচার হচ্ছে, শাস্তিও হয়েছে শীর্ষ
অপরাধীদের; কিন্তু এখনও ধর্মের
নামে ওই অপশক্তির রাজনীতি
নিষিদ্ধ হয়নি।
এবার যখন স্বাধীনতা দিবস উদযাপন
করা হচ্ছে, তখন বার্ন ইউনিটে শুয়ে
বোমায় দগ্ধ মানুষ কাতরাচ্ছে। গত ৫
জানুয়ারি দশম জাতীয় সংসদ
নির্বাচনের এক বছর পূর্তিকে কেন্দ্র
করে অবরোধ-হরতালের নামে যে
সহিংসতা শুরু হয়েছে তাতে এ পর্যন্ত
নিহত হয়েছেন ১২৮ জন। নিহতদের
মধ্যে ৭২ জনই পেট্রোল বোমা ও
আগুনে দগ্ধ হয়ে মারা গেছেন। দগ্ধ
হয়ে যারা বেঁচে আছেন, তাদের
সামনে এখন অনিশ্চিত ভবিষ্যৎ। এ
অবস্থার অবসান সাধারণ মানুষের
কাছে সবচেয়ে কাঙ্ক্ষিত এখন।
